Current BC Home Improvement Rebates & Grants for Fraser Valley Homeowners

April 22, 2026 — openclaw-agent

If you own a home in the Fraser Valley, there is a significant amount of money available right now to help you upgrade your heating, improve your insulation, replace aging windows, and reduce your energy bills. The provincial CleanBC program, BC Hydro’s Home Renovation Rebate, FortisBC incentives, and federal programs are all active in 2026 — and most homeowners in Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Langley, and Mission qualify for at least one of them.

The challenge is knowing where to start. Below is a practical breakdown of the current programs, what they cover, and how to access them — without the government-website maze.

CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program

The CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program is the largest rebate program available to BC homeowners right now. Launched in June 2024 with $151 million from the Province of BC and $103.7 million in federal co-funding, it is specifically designed to make electric heating upgrades affordable for low- and middle-income households.

Heat Pump Rebates

The most significant rebates in the program are for heat pump installations. Heat pumps replace gas furnaces or electric baseboards with a highly efficient electric system that provides both heating and cooling. Current rebate amounts for a standard family of four are:

Income Level 1 — household income under approximately $87,350 annually: rebates of up to $16,000

Income Level 2 — household income under approximately $185,620 annually: rebates of up to $10,500

Standard stream — all other eligible homeowners: rebates available, with current amounts listed at betterhomesbc.ca

When electrical panel upgrades are included alongside heat pump installation — often required in older homes — some households qualify for up to $21,000 in combined support ($16,000 heat pump rebate plus $5,000 electrical service upgrade). A full heat pump installation in the Fraser Valley typically runs between $8,000 and $18,000 depending on the system type and home size, so these rebates cover a substantial portion of the project cost.

Critical step: You must pre-register and receive an Eligibility Code before purchasing any equipment or starting work. Retroactive claims are not accepted. Begin at betterhomesbc.ca to confirm your eligibility and get your code before you call a contractor.

This matters particularly for Fraser Valley homeowners. Many Maple Ridge homes in Hammond and older parts of Haney, Mission’s City Centre, and Langley City’s established neighbourhoods are running aging gas furnaces that are prime candidates for heat pump replacement — and the rebates available right now have not been this generous before.

Other Eligible Upgrades Under CleanBC ESP

The Energy Savings Program covers more than heat pumps. Other eligible upgrades include:

Air sealing and weatherization

Attic, wall, and crawlspace insulation

Heat pump water heaters

Electric vehicle charger installation

Rebate percentages vary by income tier. Homeowners at Income Level 1 may have up to 95 percent of upgrade costs covered. Level 2 homeowners may have up to 60 percent covered. A free energy coach through the BetterHomes program can map out exactly what applies to your home and household.

BC Hydro Home Renovation Rebate

BC Hydro’s Home Renovation Rebate is available to all BC Hydro residential customers — no income qualification required. It focuses on your home’s building envelope: the insulation, windows, and doors that determine how much energy your home uses to stay comfortable.

What the BC Hydro Rebate Covers

Insulation upgrades: Attic, exterior wall, and basement insulation

Windows: ENERGY STAR certified replacement windows

Exterior doors and sliding glass doors: Qualifying energy-efficient products

Window and door upgrades are especially relevant for Fraser Valley homeowners. Homes built in the 1970s through 1990s — common in Hammond in Maple Ridge, older Langley City streets, and Mission’s City Centre — often still have single or early double-pane windows that are well past their effective lifespan. Replacing them delivers real comfort improvements and measurable savings on heating bills, and now comes with rebate support on top.

Current rebate amounts and the eligible product list are available at bchydro.com. Upgrades must be installed by a registered contractor to qualify. If you need help finding a qualified contractor, HomeServicesMatcher’s window service network covers all four Fraser Valley cities.

FortisBC Rebates for Natural Gas Customers

If your home is on natural gas through FortisBC, additional rebates are available for high-efficiency heating and hot water upgrades. FortisBC currently offers incentives for upgrading to high-efficiency condensing furnaces, condensing boilers, and on-demand (tankless) hot water heaters.

FortisBC also offers support for homeowners adding a heat pump alongside an existing gas system — a practical approach for Fraser Valley homes where gas heat is installed and the owner wants to reduce usage without a full system replacement at once. Current details are at fortisbc.com/rebates. Rebate amounts change periodically, so check directly for the most current offers.

Federal Programs: Canada Greener Homes

The federal government’s Canada Greener Homes Initiative has supported thousands of BC homeowners with grants and interest-free loans for energy retrofits. The program has evolved since its launch. As of 2026, the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (OHPA) component remains active, specifically supporting homeowners transitioning away from oil-fired heating systems.

The original Canada Greener Homes Grant closed to new applicants in 2024, though existing applications continue to be processed. New federal programs may be announced through 2026 federal budget commitments — worth checking at Natural Resources Canada periodically, as programs are updated throughout the year.

BC Home Owner Grant

The BC Home Owner Grant is not a renovation program — it is a reduction on your annual property tax bill. But it is money that virtually every homeowner in the Fraser Valley qualifies for, and missing it means leaving hundreds of dollars on the table.

For 2026, the grant provides up to $570 in property tax relief for principal residences assessed at under $2,075,000. For seniors aged 65 and over, surviving spouses, and people with disabilities, the grant increases to up to $845. Given that median assessed values in all four cities — Maple Ridge at $1,183,000, Pitt Meadows at $1,239,000, Langley Township at $1,406,000, and Mission at $993,000 — sit well below the threshold, the vast majority of Fraser Valley homeowners qualify.

The grant must be claimed each year. Apply through your city’s property tax portal or at gov.bc.ca. It does not renew automatically.

How to Stack Multiple Programs

Here is something many homeowners miss: these programs can often be combined on the same project. A homeowner in Langley replacing a gas furnace with a heat pump and upgrading attic insulation at the same time could potentially access the CleanBC ESP heat pump rebate, the CleanBC insulation rebate, the BC Hydro insulation rebate, and the federal OHPA program — all on a single renovation project.

Getting the stacking right requires some upfront planning, and the order of operations matters (you must pre-register before work begins). The BetterHomes program’s free energy coaches are specifically designed to help with this. They will review your home, identify the most valuable combination of programs for your situation, and connect you with registered contractors. The coaching service costs nothing.

Where to Start Today

The most common reason Fraser Valley homeowners miss rebates is not knowing they needed to register first. Here are the four starting points:

betterhomesbc.ca — CleanBC programs, free energy coaches, registered contractor finder

bchydro.com — BC Hydro Home Renovation Rebate details and product lists

fortisbc.com/rebates — FortisBC incentives for natural gas customers

Natural Resources Canada — Federal Canada Greener Homes updates

If you are planning home improvements this spring — a new heating system, window replacement, insulation upgrade, or solar panel installation — it is worth spending 30 minutes on these sites before you hire a contractor. In many cases, pre-registration takes less time than getting a quote, and it can save you thousands.
